Venus in October

For the month of October, I want to commit to writing a bit about some of the transits that will be occurring.

The first planet I want to mention is Venus because she is finally out of Virgo. Thank Heavens! Venus is nit picky and judgmental in Virgo though some may call it constructive criticism. Personally, there are too many self-conscious elements in my chart to deal with the weight of perfection.

For the purposes of someone reading this with no Astrological background knowledge, you can think of Venus as a feminine archetype. As I talk about Venus, you can imagine she is a character and you have the power to create her in your mind. In fact you may wish to pause for a moment and envisage this woman. No matter if you are man, woman, or otherwise, you can still think from her perspective. She is beautiful, creative, and diplomatic. We begin our story with Venus having just left the depths of hades.

Venus in Libra

Once Venus enters Libra, she will be opposing Jupiter in Aries. You can imagine Libra is the city that Venus calls home. She feels very comfortable here. Jupiter (Zeus in Greek mythology) is like a knight in shining armor on steroids visiting a city that is hell bent on going to war for something…anything. Venus has a desire for peace and harmony which is at odds with the longing for freedom and exploration of Jupiter in this city built on impulse. The idea is to balance these two archetypes. Themes of grandeur and overindulgence may also be expected, as Jupiter, the planet of expansion, emphasizes Venus’s love for beauty, art, and gourmet. Venus in Libra may sacrifice her own comfort to support someone else. She may even consider joining Jupiter to fight alongside him like a rebel without a cause, despite having just made it out of the underworld. So watch your consumption and any obsession you may have with people-pleasing.

Venus will continue to be a main character for the entire month, as she and the Sun tango from Libra into Scorpio. As the Sun is also in Libra, the chemistry between this pair is palpable! Venus and the Sun will be putting on their hotly anticipated show of the year! For this year’s theme, a procession through the streets of Libra into the city of Scorpio. The sultry dance will have the Sun leading Venus through a series of aspects with several other characters, before Venus exits the stage on October 25th. Those aspects include a trine with Saturn, a trine with Mars, and a Square with Pluto.

Trines

Trines are formed when planets are 120° apart on the zodiacal wheel. First the Sun will trine Saturn (October 10–11) and then Venus will move into that same position (October 13–14).

“The trine indicates that the energies linked do not resist or conflict with each other in anyway. They are in a state of equilibrium with respect to one another. Whenever one chooses to act according to the nature of energies combined by a trine, there is ease of action and lack of difficulty - so long as one chooses to act within the framework of a status-quo into one’s life.”

-Robert Hand, Horoscope Symbols

In other words, trines feel like everything is falling into place.

Trine with Saturn

A trine between Venus and Saturn summed up into one word for me is devotion. Commitment and discipline tie for a close second. On October 13th, Venus will form a trine with Saturn in Aquarius. Saturn is an elder, and he can be a bit slow, but he has wisdom and values discipline. He sees the potential in Venus and plays a very supportive role as a mentor. This aspect is like receiving a message from a carrier pigeon that confirms she is on the right path. Venus appreciates his support and his words bring her great comfort.

Trine with Mars

A trine between Venus and Mars summed up into one word is passion; raw, primal, and delicious passion. Mars and Venus are lovers, though they don’t often have the same intentions in mind. Mars is a soldier that resides in the city where Jupiter is visiting (where he has a tendency to be just as debaucherous). However, Mars is currently in Gemini which is city built on intellect. He is fascinated by the markets there and meeting new people, he’s almost forgotten he loves fighting. The food smells delicious and he’s caught himself enjoying the company of others, but only as acquaintances, of course. All of this zest for life reminds Mars of his desire for Venus and all those times she was right about the finer things in life. He sits at a table and begins to write a letter to her. Venus receives this letter and is filled with a buzzing heat within her body, as she lusts for her lover.

Squares

“The square is the bete noire of many astrologers.” — Robert Hand

When planets form a 90° angle from one another on the zodiacal wheel, the aspect is called a square. Squares are of the nature of Mars (the planet associated with war, strife, and conflict). Often times, squares require some sort of peace agreement for resolution, otherwise something is being repressed and the battle will resurface. This aspect shows where the resistance leads to compromise. There will be no winner, but there can be progress if each side is willing to make concessions.

Square to Pluto

A square between Venus and Pluto summed up into one word is tantra. See, it doesn’t have to be bad just because Pluto is here. This is that build up to orgasm. It is ravenous passion that is secretly selfish desire. Pluto in Capricorn tearing things down to rebuild them. With Venus in Libra desperately wanting to maintain some sort of diplomacy, Pluto in Capricorn is willing to do so only if there is still some sort of great transformation that comes as a result. Rather than being a character in the story, we can think of this aspect with Pluto as the resistance Venus is experiencing. The exact square will occur on October 20, but we may already be feeling the pressure build.

Conjunction with Sun

When Venus and the Sun join together in the sky this is known as the Venus Star Point (a term coined by Arielle Gutman), and it will be the first Venus in Libra Star Point since 1880. Again, Venus is at home in Libra, meaning our creativity, joy, and pleasure will be a focal point for passionate new beginnings.

This “kiss of Venus with the Sun” is co-occurring with a new moon Solar Eclipse, that goes exact on the 25th of October. For me, this is brining up a lot of new energies that may coincide with huge endings. I’m expecting and am already aware of some major life changes I’ll be experiencing.
